F&F Pizza

March 13, 2025|Field taste

F&F has been serving some of the best pizza in the city since 2019 out of a converted garage building at the southern end of Carrol Gardens. It's not too far from subway - about halfway between the Carrol St and Smith & 9th St stations. It's a quaint little spot with a charming exterior and a small but accommodating interior with counters and outside seating. It's operated by Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli who also run Frankies 457, a well known restaurant next door.

When I went today, I decided to try two of their best known slices; the  sausage and broccoli raab, and Partanna. The crust at F&F is extremely light and just a little sweet. It's a little puffier than other New York style pizzas - more between a classic New York style and a Neapolitan. But it's still crispy and with enough structure to eat as all New York style pizza should be, which is half-folded at the counter.

The Partanna is named for a small town on the west side of Sicily. But this is not "Sicilian" style pizza, it's a New York slice, albeit an elevated one. The toppings are red onion, calabrian chili, and orange blossom honey.. It's a really amazing slice with the onion and honey balancing each other nicely, and a little heat from the chili.

I'm not usually a fan of broccoli on pizza but the flavors work very well with the sausage just as they do in the classic pasta dish. There's a nice fennel flavor in the sausage that comes through. It's a white pizza, so no tomato sauce, instead it's mozz, ricotta and a little pecorino romano.

Overall F&F is serving one of the best slices in New York, and it's worth the trip.
