Joe's Pizza

Joe's Pizza

Joe's Pizza is Greenwich Village institution. Established in 1975 by Naples-born Pino "Joe" Pozzuoli, it was Initially located at the corner of Bleecker and Carmine Streets, the pizzeria quickly gained acclaim for its authentic New York-style slices—thin, crisp crusts topped with simple, high-quality ingredients. In 2005, the original location closed, but Joe's Pizza reopened just a few doors down at 7 Carmine Street,

Joe's is famous for its New York-style slices that are thin, foldable, and slightly crispy at the edges. The crust is perfectly balanced—chewy yet light—with a satisfying crunch from the well-seasoned base. Their signature slice is their cheese slice, showcasing the simplicity that defines great pizza: a tangy, vibrant tomato sauce, a generous layer of gooey mozzarella, and just the right amount of oil for that classic NYC sheen. The flavors are well-harmonized, with no ingredient overpowering the others. The pepperoni slice is another favorite, topped with crisped, cupped pepperoni that adds a smoky, salty punch. For those who like a little heat, the fresh mozzarella with spicy pepperoni or the white slice with garlic and ricotta are must-tries. Joe’s doesn’t overcomplicate things—its strength lies in high-quality ingredients, traditional methods, and a time-tested recipe that delivers an unbeatable, nostalgic pizza experience every time. It's the standard against which every other cheese slice in New York is judged.

While it is a very popular tourist spot, the line moves quickly even when it's busy, and if you go slightly earlier or a little later than the typical lunch time, you won't have to wait at all. My recommendation is to ask for it "extra crispy" especially if it's busy to make sure you get it nice and hot, with a slightly stiffer crust.
